The young, big-haired Yann Bertrand works with his parents Guy and Annick in Fleurie. He grew up here but never intended to follow wine, leaving home to travel round the alps, where he ended up working in wine bars. It was here he discovered that there’s another side to Beaujolais: the wine geek angle.
Yann returned to Beaujolais and got to know the likes of Foillard and Metras, who became his inspiration, and he began working with his parents in 2012. They were farming organically (they’d moved in this direction after taking over the domaine in 1992). Yann began farming 1 hectare using biodynamic principles, and also began making wine. He now makes the wines of the domaine, working sensitively and naturally.
Delicious Beaujolais bursting with juicy red fruit yet giving a savoury complexity that lingers – brambly red fruits, currants and red apple skins. The spine is focused with fine tannins, caressed by fruit along its length. Pure Juice! Pairs well with tomato base pasta, slow cooked veal and pork.
